Bedsheet Care Tips
Before knowing how to care for bedsheets, know the types, designs, sizes and other facts about Bed Sheets
Proper Washing Tips for Bedsheets
The first step for bedsheet care is their proper washing.- Always sort your bedsheets by color before washing. White bed sheets must be washed separately. Dark colored sheets can be washed together in cold water.
- For cotton bedsheets, regular detergent works well. However, do not use too much detergent.
- Although bleaching should be avoided yet if you wish to bleach your white bedsheets, try to use an oxygen-based bleach or even safer natural whitening agents like vinegar or lemon juice mixed with water. Chlorine based bleach will turn your white bed sheets yellow over time.
- Line dry your bed sheets in summers. If you do not want to hang them on a clothesline, you may lay your sheets on the grass (ensure grass is clean)
- In winters, tumble dry your sheets in the dryer. You may even toss in a few clean tennis balls that will help keep your bedsheets from twisting up together.
Cleaning Tips for Silk Sheets
Care for Silk Bed Sheets
- Use mild detergents to wash silk sheets. Strong detergents rob your silk bedsheets of their natural shine, softness and strength.
- Avoid washing silk sheets in machine. Hand wash is what is required for the luxury bed linen like silk sheets (at least wash them for first few times with hands).
- If you cannot avoid using washing machine to clean your silk sheets, keep the machine at mild setting.
- Never use hot water to wash your silk sheets.
- Never spin dry the silk bedsheets in washing machine. Dry them naturally by laying them on ground or line drying away from direct sunlight.
- Never use bleach for silk bedsheets.
Storing Tips for Bedsheets
Proper storing of bedsheets is also essential for bedsheets care.- Store your bed linens in a dry, airy closet on shelves that let air through.
- Do not to stuff too many bedsheets and linens together. This will restrict air flow around them.
- Avoid leaving bedsheets folded up in a closet or packed away for very long periods as their fabric tends to deteriorate along the creases.
- Remember to place some mild moth balls (if possible use herbal moth balls) when storing your silk sheets in the closed. Chemicals in strong moth balls can damage your silk bedsheets.
