How to Store Bed Linen
29 May 2010-
The best way to store bed linen is to make them clean before folding them carefully and storing in a dry, dark place such as a linen closet or dresser drawer. Bed linen care can only be complete when they are stored away from direct sunlight, especially those bed linen that are made with fine linen or some other exquisite fabric like silk. Sunlight can fade the linen color and break down the fabric fibers. Here are some tips to store bed linen in order to keep them fresh and new for years!
Tips to Store Bed Linen
Wash, dry and store bed linens but also rotate them while using.
-
If you want your bed linen to stay wrinkle free, always take them immediately out of dryer after washing them. If they are already cool when you take them out, put them back in the dryer for a couple of minutes with a moist cloth.
-
Completely dry your bed linens that you need to store. Compactly fold them and store them without jam packing your bed linen drawer or linen closet shelf.
-
For those bed linen that are not regularly used, get some contractor's trash bags (designed for heavy building materials.) Storing bed linens in them keep them clean and dry.
-
While placing bed linen into these bags, also place some dryer softener sheets between the linens that will keep them smelling fresh.
-
After neatly storing bed linen into the bags, fold the bag over itself to let as much air out as is possible. With the help of duct tape, close any openings. This will keep out dust, moisture and critters!
-
As these linens are not used often, avoid storing them in the regular linen closet. Instead, store these rarely used bed linen in non traditional places like under the beds, a closet in a spare room, in a laundry room cupboard, on top shelves of closets, and on shelves in the garage or basement.
-
Use herbal moth repellents while storing your bed linen to save from getting damaged, especially when you store silk bed linen.
-
Don't forget these bed linens after storing them. Folded linens get cut at the folds if stored for a very long period. So, use your bed linens once in a while.
